There's no denying the pandemic is different the world of cosmetics.
There's been a spate of launches designed to deliver mask-proof makeup, such as the new ultra-long-wear foundations promising to weld themselves for your face for up to Twenty four hours or even more, and now there's another less-is-more trend.
However, panic not. This is not a no-makeup, bare-faced movement, it's this is the resurgence from the concept of concealer just where you really need it.
From US celebrity makeup artist Monika Blunder, whose one-pot-does-it-all Blunder Cover is really a concealer/foundation hybrid, to Lanc^ome's Teint Idole Ultra Wear All Over Concealer, the concept is to use just one product where you want a little bit of help.
Otherwise, enable your natural skin shine forth. It's a trend celebrity makeup artist Caroline Barnes has noticed.
'As well as the Blunder products, there are new concealers from Jones Road [below] that suit the balance, in addition to cult classics for example Glossier's Stretch Concealer [bottom],' she says.
'They can be displayed quite thick when you first apply them however, you need to blend them down. They're formulated to permit this. Once the product procedes to a hydrated canvas, it dilutes beautifully but nonetheless keeps its coverage.'
And Barnes highlights that the 'hydrated canvas' is key.
'You can get away with applying a foundation to dried-out skin but concealer needs hydrated skin,' she says. 'I'd suggest applying a moisturiser within 30 minutes of applying your concealer.'
However, she's not convinced one concealer can do everything, adding: 'I'd usually advise two concealers Body that's radiant that you can use under the eyes, and something that's opaque that hides lumps and bumps.'
She also thinks that foundation isn't quite dead yet.
'I just don't think you're going to get the natural radiance from an opaque concealer that you'd get from a basis, or something like Chanel's Water Fresh Tint or Trinny London's BFF,' she says. 'They give a luminosity to skin that's hard to recreate with a concealer.'
When it comes to luminosity, Blunder concedes that unless you're careful, the end result can look more flat than foundation but insists that increasing skin hydration is the 'easiest fix'.
If you wear rich skincare underneath, the concealer and skincare will mix making a dewy, luminous concoction.
'With just a little patience and careful application, the all-over concealer could be the key to your most natural-looking base ever,' she says.
