We put Urban Decay's new vegan mascara to the test

Good vegan mascaras can be difficult to come by.

Many formulas contain beeswax, which makes them animal-derived.

Urban Decay has now launched a brand new vegan mascara – their very first – meaning shoppers are now able to do a full face of vegan beauty using their products.

But could it be worthwhile? Well, we place it towards the test, with the vegan eyeshadow palette launched alongside it.

How does it apply?

The positive news is a vegan mascara can be just as good as a regular one – you will find hardly any shortcomings here.

When I first applied the mascara, I noticed just how long my lashes looked and how easy it had been to develop the formula without clumps.

Building up was necessary however, as the formula is on the thin side, so is more lengthening than volumising.

Its saving grace is this fact is rather easy to do as the liquid doesn't set and dry too fast, so there 's time to work with it.

Here's how it looked on my eyes, without an eyelash curler, both freshly applied and several hours later.

You can see it provides me a good noticeable lash, although not a particularly strong one.

Natural makeup fans will particularly love this particular.

The brush isn't oversized either – it's very average fit and length (there's a slight curve in it), so avoiding smudges on the eyelid is simple too.

In all, it is a great 'everyday' mascara.

How does it last over a day?

This truly is a workhorse mascara – it looked the identical at 11pm as it did at 8am.

Most mascaras smudge on me, and given how slowly this mascara dried down, my hopes were low.

As you can observe above, though, it gave me virtually no detectable smudges or flaking. The remainder of my makeup looked worn in and less fresh than in the morning, however the mascara held up impeccably.

It might not be as volumnising as I would like, but for this reason alone the merchandise is staying within my makeup bag.

Many people will get on with this – maybe vegan makeup is the way forward.

This was a little disappointing. Firstly, the packaging is impractical (no mirror and uneven flaps) and childish.

It's quite slim to carry, that is unlike Urban Decay, whose palettes are normally chunky – so that's something positive around the packaging front.

The colour story is varied enough, with actually not too much green making it simple to wear, but the formula is unlike the usual Urban Decay standard.

Shimmers are thin to the touch, with not much opacity unless built up.

Longstanding brand fans is going to be disappointed here, sadly, but makeup novices might love the dip into colour with a fun layout and delicate pigmentation.

The look I finished track of was nice, but I'll probably pass this palette onto a friend.

Invest within the mascara and skip the palette, I only say. You can't really go wrong.
